Active Communities, Sustainable Future
VSO Bahaginan has once again brought together volunteering advocates for its second Volunteering Expo last March 13, 2012. Carrying the theme: “Active communities, Sustainable Future,” this year’s theme is apt given how Filipinos has transformed their view about volunteerism. Volunteering has gone beyond its simple principle of donating time and energy for someone who needs it. It has evolved into something more valuable as volunteerism today takes a deeper role in catalyzing positive change for a community. Numerous times it’s been seen how the power of volunteerism moved mountains to help communities rise from challenges.
Co-presented by the Department of Interior and Local Government and the Local Government Authority, the event was also supported by OneMeralco Foundation, the Philippine Long Distance and Telephone Company, Petron Foundation, Far Eastern University, Hands on Manila, Greenpeace, Infinity Travel and Tours, Emirates, the BusinessMirror and Clickthecity.com.
Become Agents of Change through Arts
True to VSO Bahaginan’s philosophy of creating a lasting change through bringing people together to share skills and knowledge, 17 renowned visual artists are sharing their skills by including select art pieces to the “Art for Volunteerism” exhibit. Through the sales of the contributed artworks, more lives will be transformed in the Model Forest Projects in Bohol and Samar, Philippines. This environmental program focuses on sustainable management of the Watersheds in the area and is being accomplished in partnership with the International Model Forest Network (IMFN) and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
The Art for Volunteerism has been made possible with strong support from Globe Telecommunications, Inc., Pioneer Insurance, and American Data Exchange Corporation. Also extending assistance to the event are Riego de Dios Law Offices and Voyage Studios. Know more by visiting this site: www.artforvolunteerism.wordpress.com.
